Robust Trioptical-State Electrochromic Energy Storage Device Enabled by Reversible Metal Electrodeposition

Reversible electrochemical mirror (REM) electrochromic devices based on reversible metal electrodeposition are exciting alternatives compared with conventional because they offer tunability in multiple optical states, long durability, and high contrast. Different from materials, of which the color change depends intercalation/deintercalation ions into films, states REMs is dissolution metal. In this study, a REM device Cu hybrid electrolyte composed aqueous nonaqueous components proposed, serves as an reservoir that hosts for electrodeposition/dissolution. The promotes reversibility redox, enhanced performance, robust cycling stability 5000 cycles (minor degradation 4.71%). investigation discharging/charging reveals Cl–/ClO– redox mechanism occurs at cathode. Finally, unprecedented dual-functional energy storage has been realized.
